Samsung Budget Camcorder Tackles Flip Ultra HD

Could this be the next boom sector...?
Much in the way Asus and Acer largely had the netbook market to themselves before everyone else piled in, the entry of Samsung into the mini budget camcorder space doesn't bode well for the Flip Ultra HD and Creative Vado HD.

The Samsung 'HMX-U10' may go down the usual dull branding route typical of most Sammy products but it packs one heck of a punch. No less than 10 megapixel stills can be captured with the HMX-U10 while Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixel) video recording is available along with an HDMI connection. Elsewhere things are rather more standard with a 2in LCD monitor for viewing and editing content while all recording is made to SDHC cards.
Concerns at this stage are no mention of image stabilisation while there's no zoom either but this is typical of its rivals too. Furthermore the HMX-U10 packs 'intelli-studio' software and a one touch upload button with direct access to YouTube. At just 103 x 56 x 15.5mm and 95g the HMX-U10 is also slimmer and lighter than current top dog the Flip Ultra HD and while no UK price is mentioned the announced $200 (£142) US RRP would make it cheaper too.
With an imminent September launch on the cards it's clear the big dogs are coming out to play...
