Shuffle not to far away from the market space of digital cameras and you inevitably come to printers. Right behind our review of the SELPHY CP500 and showing that technology is moving as fast as ever is the SELPHY CP600.

A new flagship in the SELPHY range, the CP600 offers improved 69 second portable photo prints at sizes up to 100 x 200mm. As with all claimed printer speeds, wait until we have it in for review for confirmation of these claims.

Most of the CP600’s features, as you would expect are identical or incremental improvements over CP500, but the inclusion of the DIGIC II processing engine (the same as in the 350D-SLR) was a real surprise. I have never known a printer to feature a digital camera processing engine before but the purported result is faster print output and it allows for new processes to be incorporated which “markedly improve image quality”. A true hybrid device, then; I think a review may be necessary.

Should you be tempted by one of these, at just 850g it won’t be a problem lugging it back from the shops in April, when your wallet will be £199 (including VAT) lighter.

If you are looking for more of an all-in-one solution, the MP760 multifunction photo centre could be closer to your liking. Canon’s first high end inkjet entry into this arena comes with a 4800 x 1200dpi printer capable of 2pl ink droplets and a reported 22ppm mono and 17ppm printout speed, a full colour 2400 x 4800dpi flat bed scanner and 25cpm mono and 17cpm colour copier.

A high contrast, 2.5in colour LCD for direct image previews and editing from film and memory card should come in handy if you want the convenience of printing without being connected to a PC. RRP is £299 including VAT and the MP760 will be available from March.
