Next on the hit list is the Digital Ixus 50, the company’s smallest five megapixel camera to date. Based around the body of the recently released Ixus 40, it also comes with 3x zoom, 2in LCD and the ability to record VGA quality video clips at 30fps with sound. For those with a Canon photo printer the Ixus 50 is enabled with PictBridge for direct printing without a PC. Available from April the Ixus 50 will carry an RRP of £319 including VAT.

Big brother of the Ixus 50, the new Ixus 700 was subsequently on display. Slightly bigger than its sibling, the Ixus 700 shares many of the same characteristics despite a slightly altered external design. The main difference is its seven megapixel photography and a couple of slinky pieces of internal software. The first is called QuickBright and it temporarily takes the 2in screen to maximum brightness for shooting outside, the other is Night Display which (you guessed it) improves screen visibility and compositing for framing at low light conditions.

Owners of the previous generation Ixus 500 will notice the 700 has a new dial for switching modes. In addition, the new model is lightly lighter (eight per cent) and the contours have been rounded. The Ixus 700 hits the streets in late March and will cost you a not altogether unreasonable £399.
