Brother MFC-J4410DW – Design and Features

The MFC-J4410DW is the second of Brother’s new landscape A4 inkjet printers we’ve looked at and sits slightly below the MFC-J5410DW in terms of price. Furthermore, it’s also available from a wide range of retailers, rather than being a PC World-specific model. It’s designed as a personal all-in-one and can handle single-sheet A3 printing from a feeder at the back as well as landscape A4, which should be a bit quicker than similarly priced conventional A4 devices.

The MFC-J4410DW breaks away from Brother’s tendency to manufacture all-in-ones that look like fax machines and instead offers modern, square cut lines and high-contrast black and white livery. The flat, textured top is divided into three sections, with the central section lifting up and hinging over to become the paper support for the 20-sheet Automatic Document Feed (ADF). The top section lifts for full A4 flatbed scanning, too.

The control panel, which comprises a 45mm LCD touchscreen with a touch panel to its right, folds out to any of three click-stop positions. Although the screen is small, it remains surprisingly usable for simple menu selections. To the left of the control panel is a flip-down cover that conceals a front-panel USB socket along with slots for SD and Memory Stick Duo cards.

Underneath the front panel is a 150-sheet paper tray that’s a bit
awkward to pull out and replace. Just above this is a two-element
telescopic output tray with a flip-over end stop. At the back a further flap enables feed of special papers, including A3. The paper guides for this occasional feed are small and flimsy and it’s not easy to set up paper this way.

The only physical connection available is a USB port at the back, however the MFC-J4410DW does offer wireless connectivity, which is easy to setup and can be used for network printing or for direct print from iOS and Android phones and tablets.

The printer takes four ink cartridges that slide into position behind a cover to the right of the paper tray. It’s possible to use either standard or high yield cartridges.
