The main stumbling block with the SoundDock isn't anything to do with its design or sound quality. In fact, this is a well-designed rechargeable speaker system that does the job it's designed to do well, notwithstanding the ineffectual remote.
It's the price that really sticks in the craw: £280 is a lot for most people to spend on their main hi-fi system, let alone one to put in the kitchen and use in the garden occasionally. And purchasing accessories will bump that up even further. The bag is £40 and if you want a spare battery you'll have to fork out an astonishing £70. Good though the SoundDock is, it's certainly not worth that much.Read full review
I tried out the Bose SD Portable in Comet. There were stereo systems such as Panasonic and Sony with docking stations in the £20-300 price range. None of them sounded anywhere near as good and they were larger and not portable. I normally find TR reviews very spot-on but I'd have to say this review does not recognise the fact that this relatively small and portable unit delivers incredible fidelity and pure sound for it's size. The value score of 4/10 is silly and the overall score of 6/10 does not reflect the capability of this unit. How many units are rechargeable and deliver big stereo sound? Furthermore this little Bose is not far off a hi-fi separates unit and better than most large stereos. If you think I'm wrong check the user reviews on Google Products. The overall consensus speaks for itself.
the price is ridiculous. 6/10 is generous. To put this only a couple of points behind the zeppelin for audio is overly positive. The prices have even gone up by £50 since the review!
