Key features:

  • 65-inch LCD TV with direct LED lighting
  • 4K resolution
  • High Dynamic Range support
  • Quantum Dot colour technology
The Samsung UE65JS9500 is a 65-inch LCD TV with direct LED lighting and almost everything else the South Korean firm can throw at it. It’s got HDR (high dynamic range) playback, native 4K/UHD resolution, a Nanocrystal colour system, a curved screen and the new Tizen Smart TV system. It looks lovely too, though it’s quite chunky around the back.

Images are incredible, with inky black and pure whites. Colours, meanwhile, are both subtle and vivid, making for one of the greatest viewing experience offered by any domestic telly. 3D performance is phenomenal too, and we’re pleased to report  that it’s responsive enough to use as a gaming screen.

Sound quality isn’t quite as stellar.  The UE65JS9500’s main strengths are extremely good handling of treble details, and vocals which remain impressively clean and well-rounded even when put under pressure by the rest of a soundtrack. Unfortunately, the speakers can’t hit really high volumes, and that the sound generally lacks a little attack and directness.

Price: £5,999
