The 55-inch UE55HU8500
LCD TV with edge LED lighting is another of Samsung’s smaller curved 4K TVs. As with the UE48JU7500, we’re not convinced the arc really affects performance in a positive manner, though it does help in the looks department. The TV as a whole is also slim, perched on a silver metallic desktop stand that follows the line of the screen.
Out of the box, you’ll have to do a fair bit of tinkering to get the display settings just right, but it’s worth the effort. Once you’ve nailed the formula, black levels are deep, colours are ultra-rich, and the picture doesn’t suffer from motion blur. It feels more like looking through a window than at a telly, though the curve gets in the way if you’re sat at an angle. 3D picture quality is brilliant too, though it’s not responsive enough for serious gamers.
The speakers are also powerful enough to support fairly high volumes without succumbing to distortion, while there’s way more bass than we’re used to hearing from Samsung’s thin LCD panels. Dialogue and the mid-range sound well-rounded, and treble detail is delivered strongly without causing harshness.Price:
