iPad mini 2

A satchel friendly tablet for Apple fans

Key features:
  • 7.9-inch 2,048 x 1,536 IPS screen
  • Apple A7 CPU
  • Similar to mini 3 but far cheaper
The iPad mini 3 is already out there in the wild, but it’s actually the second-generation version of the iPad mini that snags our budget larger tablet recommendation. There’s very little difference between the two, and Apple (and everyone else) is going to continue selling the iPad mini 2 at a reduced price.

It’s now a great bargain, especially if you shop around. Crucially, you still get that high-end feel thanks to Apple’s usual aluminium construction and a high-ppi Retina screen. You don’t need to worry about the tablet going ‘out of date’ any time soon either, as the brand new iPad mini 3 has exactly the same engine running the show – an Apple A7 CPU.

Price: £239
