Thinnest Tablet

Key features:
  • 8.4-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 OLED display
  • Incredibly thin and light
  • Jaw-dropping design
  • 3D RealSense camera
Dell has worked hard on making its 8-inch tablet stand out from the crowd, and nobody can deny that the Dell Venue 8 7000 does exactly that. Fashion-conscious consumers with a taste for sharing snaps on Instagram will love it.

First and foremost, it’s incredibly thin, at just 6mm. It’s also amazingly light, weighing 305g. This shows too – it feels like one of the lightest tablets we’ve ever tested, regardless of size. However, the anodised aluminium chassis makes it tough too. You won’t need to worry about throwing it into your bag, for instance.

The 8.4-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 OLED display is really sharp, and delivers excellent colour richness and deep blacks. It’s surrounded by three slim bezels and one particularly thick one (about an inch thick), which houses the speaker and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It also functions as a handhold and contains Intel’s RealSense camera. This is a 3D affair combining a pair of cameras with an IR sensor. It captures images with depth, which are a picture editor’s dream.

A quad-core Intel Atom Processor Z3580 lies under the hood, along with 2GB of RAM. Dell released the Venue 8 7000 in January, and our full review of the tablet will be up shortly.

Price: $399
