  • Ergonomic design
  • Two-day battery life
Despite what its name suggests, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is one of the first phones to justify a 6-inch screen. For something so large, it’s surprisingly finger-friendly, thanks to a combination of clever design moves. It’s just 7.9mm thick, the bezels are tiny and the soft keys are positioned towards the centre of the screen.
It looks good too, with an HTC One Max-esque front face and predominantly aluminium rear. The back also features a fingerprint scanner, which works flawlessly.
However, the Mate’s display and power are what really make it stand out. The 6-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 IPS panel is great for watching movies and playing games on, offering excellent colour accuracy and viewing angles. Its HiSilicon Kirin 925 CPU and Mali T-628 MP6 GPU ensure super-slick slick performance too, and it handles high-end 3D games like a dream. It’s also pretty easy to squeeze two days of use from the massive 4,100mAh battery.
The 13-megapixel main shooter has HDR mode and captures good detail, which the 5-megapixel front-facing sensor snaps impressive selfies. Not bad for a phablet that costs almost £200 less than the Note 4.
