Best Small Office Mono Laser PrinterKey features:
- Excellent print quality
- LCD touchscreen
- Runs quietly
Mono laser printers are generally considered to be fairly dull, frill-free workhorses, but HP’s tried to break the mould with the LaserJet Pro 400 M410dn
. Unlike similar machines, this packs a colour LCD touchscreen, which folds up and down on a multi-position stalk.
At the bottom is a 250-sheet paper tray, with a 50-sheet, pull-down, multi-purpose tray just above. A 500-sheet tray is available too, which would boost maximum capacity to 800 sheets.
It achieved unremarkable speeds of 15.8ppm on the five-page text test and 23.5ppm over 20 pages but print quality is excellent, with text documents free of splatter and business graphics and photo reproduction particularly impressive. The high-capacity, 6,900-page toner cartridge gives a cost per page of 2.5p, which is slightly cheaper than what you’d get from rivals. The only notable issue with this machine is the lack of wireless support, but there are USB and gigabit Ethernet ports on the rear. It’s nice and quiet though, which should make it a good option for use in small, general offices.Price:
