Best Office Printer

Key features:
  • Very quick print speeds
  • Cheap to run
  • Colour touchscreen
If you’re hunting for a printer that can comfortably handle the workload of a busy office, you should take a look at the HP Officejet Pro X576DW. As printers come, it’s a good-looking machine, and the 109mm colour touchscreen used to control the device is easy to use. Its casing houses a USB slot and a large flap beneath the control panel hides the four cartridges, which click into place.

These cartridges are very efficient, with the high-yield version of the black cartridge capable of printing up to 9,200 pages. 10 overlapping printheads run the full width of the paper (meaning that the head doesn’t have to scan from side to side, and only the paper moves), making it a very quick printer. It’s also much cheaper to run than rival colour lasers, delivering page costs of 1.6p for mono and 4.8p for colour, both including 0.7p for paper. It produces sharp black text and bright colours, while photo reproduction is decent on plain paper and excellent on photo paper. The scanner could be quicker, however, and it is rather noisy.
