Final Fantasy isn't just one of the most enduring RPG franchises of all time, it's also host to some of the best music ever heard in a video game. With this in mind, it's understandable that Square Enix would want to show off the incredible audio heritage of the series, and it has done this via the superb Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. The original game launched a few years back on the 3DS and smartphones, but this update makes what was already an impressive package even more irresistible by expanding the catalogue of songs dramatically.
On a basic level, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call sees you tapping and tracing on the screen in time with the music - music which comes from multiple entries in the franchise. This mechanic is coupled with mini-RPG elements and a range of game modes. A staggering 200 songs are included this time around - three times as many as were in the first title - as well as more characters to play as, all of which will be instantly familiar to fans of the iconic brand.
It's tempting to pigeonhole this game as pure fan service and consider it unlikely to appeal to anyone who isn't a card-carrying Final Fantasy addict, but the truth is that the gameplay is appealing enough to grip any player, and the music is simply gorgeous - even if you have no idea which game it's taken from.
