- Weight: 1.36kg
- Excellent Full HD screen
- great battery life
Acer’s Swift 5 is the company’s mid-range Ultrabook, and it does a superb job of beating strong rivals from Lenovo and Asus in terms of sheer value for money.
Weighing in at just 1.36kg, it’s light for a 14-inch laptop and at just 14.6mm thick, this is a bag-friendly laptop without the huge price tag.
Things are good elsewhere. Performance from the Intel Core i5-7200U dual-core processor is sprightly enough for some light photo and video editing. Paired with 8GB of memory and a reasonably fast 256GB SSD, this is a balanced laptop that uses a nice mix of not overly expensive components.
Battery life was a bit of a surprise, with the Swift 5 managing over nine hours in both our synthetic and Netflix streaming benchmarks. This is a very encouraging pair of results and makes this laptop a real all-day working contender.
It might not be as powerful as the Lenovo IdeaPad 710S, which costs a little more and is also a lot lighter, and it doesn’t have high-performance Intel Iris Graphics, but for the money it easily beats similar offerings from Asus.
At the time of review the Acer Swift 5 was available for £700.
