On a budget
Panasonic TX-P42X60B (£299)
If you don’t mind missing out on the latest technology, the 42-inch Panasonic X60 plasma is a great bet. It costs peanuts for a TV of its size and offers great image quality thanks to its decent plasma panel. Panasonic has confirmed that it won’t be making plasma TVs in the future, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Black levels in this TV will trounce any LCD TV at the price. However, it is only 720p, and doesn’t look as flash as most LCD rivals.
Sony KDL42W653 (£500)
If you have an extra £200 lying about, we also strongly recommend the Sony KDL42W653. This 42-inch TV looks great, offers top picture quality and is stonking value. The one key downside is that it does not support 3D. However, from what we’ve heard many of you don’t really care about 3D anyway. We liked it so much that two people in team Trusted ended up buying one.
