While it’s not one of Sony’s newest TVs - most of the brand’s 2012 models are still waiting in the wings - the 40in 40CX523 is such good value at under £400 (via Sainsburys) that it’s arguably this roundup’s biggest ‘shoo in’. After all, despite using old-school CCFL LCD panel tech its pictures are crisp, contrast-rich and above all natural, and it even gives you Sony’s excellent Bravia Internet Video online service for good measure. Get em while they’re hot.
