Andrew Williams

Looking for the best camera apps for your Android phone? Whether it's the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the Moto G, these are our pick of the Google Play essentials

Every Android phone comes with a camera app. But not every Android phone comes with a good camera app.

Does your phone have a bit of a rubbish camera app? Not everyone can afford a Galaxy S5, and there are plenty of ways around it.

We’re going to look at the best Android camera app for every occasion, whether you’re looking for something simple, something to help you get a bit deeper into photography or something to really jazz up your HDR photos.

No-one wants a list of near-identical camera apps with the same main aim, so we’ll be looking at one main type of each app. From simple everyday apps to that that specialise in stop-motion animation, there’s something for just about everyone here.

Sorry but I think you missed out with Camera MX. Did you try it?

ISO, shutter control and METERING. Learn what those things mean.
Camera MX is for people that don't know what those things mean and hence make awful pictures.

Camera MX has a nice interface and great filters (but so do many other apps) but one of its downfalls is the aggressive advertising in the free version, its HDR mode is just a slider for adjusting contrast and saturation (true digital HDR requires multiple exposures). the apps that did get listed have been around longer, run better on lower end devices, and have much bigger following.

ISO, shutter control and METERING, people that know these might not make awful pictures, but still make boring ones :P
