BlackBerry Priv camera may be better than expected

BlackBerry’s forthcoming Android smartphone, the Priv, may have a better camera than many people were expecting.

The Canadian company officially announced its Android debut towards the end of September, but no spec details have been confirmed to date.

That hasn’t stopped the internet from doing some delving, of course, and numerous leaks and rumours appear to have given us a pretty good idea of how the Priv will shape up.

One of those leaked specs concerns the Priv’s camera, which seemed set to be an 18-megapixel affair. This prompted concerns when early hands-on reports conducted on early test units suggested less than stellar low-light performance.

However, Twitter tipster @Ricciolo1 has provided hope for potential Priv customers, claiming that the handset will actually feature a Sony IMX230 sensor.

As PhoneArena points out, this is the same sensor that powers the Motorola Moto X Style‘s camera, which is a 21-megapixel unit. The latest Moto has also received good notices for its photographic capabilities, which isn’t something you could say about any previous Motorola phone.

If true, this would represent a bump up from the expected Priv camera spec, and a possible solution to those underwhelming low-light reports.

Other rumoured specs for the upcoming Android slider include a 5.4-inch display with a 1440p resolution, a Snapdragon 808 processor, and 3GB of RAM.

The BlackBerry Priv is set to hit the market some time before the end of the year.
