Apple unveils Beats Pill+ with iOS and Android companion apps

Apple has unveiled a brand new addition to its Beats Pill Bluetooth speaker line-up.

It’s called the Beats Pill+, and it slots in between the Pill proper and the larger Pill XL.

The new speaker is slightly bigger than the original Beats Pill, which Beats claims allows for “a bigger and fuller sound”.

There’s a stereo active 2-way crossover system on board that creates and optimised sound field for dynamic range and clarity.

The design has also been changed, tending towards a more premium feel. The button controls have also moved to the top of the speaker.

Battery life is pegged at 12 hours, although we’ll have to wait for a review sample to verify the claim.

To charge the Pill+, you’ll use the built-in lightning port that provides a “quick full charge” in three hours. There’s also a “fuel gauge” to let you know how much battery is left.

“When you obsess about sound the way that we do at Beats, portable Bluetooth speakers can be very tricky,” says Luke Wood, President of Beats.

Wood continues: “We spent countless days, weeks, months testing for that perfect combination of form and function – small enough to travel but still big enough to feel the emotion of the music. That’s what you get with Pill+.”

Beats also announced a new companion app for the Pill+ that lets you control the speaker using your iOS or Android device.

With the app, you’ll be able to switch between play modes, control playback, and pair speakers.

The new Beats Pill+ is set to go on sale next month at Apple.com and authorised resellers, at a price of $229.95.
