I'm an owner of Padfone 2 and I liked the idea of having this separate Padstation to be able to use Tablet in the evenings (using phone for the most of the day).

But where in case of Padfone 2 there was saving, here the price is kind of showstopper for me. I can get HTC One and Google Nexus 10 and it appears I would be saving some money by doing so.
Lets hope Asus throws a promotion, buy Phone and get Padstation at 50% cost (at least).

Why does everyone complain about the price? I can get (the 4th generation of) this for around $800, and put it on a 2 year contract for $300 cheaper than a new Apple or Samsung that comes "free" on a much bigger contract with the same level of inclusions (data and calls).

Granted, that's more of an indication of the contract/service fee being a scam. You could save a little more by using the same approach with said Apple or Samsung device - but not enough to buy a top spec tablet.

It could be cheaper, but in a world of Apple sized mark ups, the price is simply an indication of the stupidity of the average consumer. The free market doesn't lend itself to bargains in the fields of brand new technology and fashion, both of which encompass mobile phones.
