I don't get it. The shuffle was a very niché product before. So Apple didn't correct this. Why the bitching? Just don't buy it. Ford has been offering the Ka for 10 years now. I never liked it. I don't bitch about it though. Because I don't expect every product of every company to be aimed at me.
In the same vein: if you think Apple products are too expensive over here, and they are, don't buy them. If enough people follow suit, Apple is going to have to drop the prices. Or give up on this market entirely. Then we'll all have to make do without iThings altogether. Maybe it will be a cleansing experience, like what Ghandi did or whatever...

Couldn't agree more. Who the hell wants video playback on a device that size?
That said, I wouldn't mind FM.

I have one specifically for use in the gym - it is a niche product that works better than strapping a hulking great iPod Touch/Classic to your arm. I also have a larger iPod classic ... horses for courses.
That said, more memory in the Shuffle would be great!

@Gavyn - it's called the Sansa Clip 8GB: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/news/2008/08/29/IFA-2008--SanDisk-Repositions-Sansa-Brand---Updates-Players/p1
@Ed - the screen on players this size OBVIOUSLY isn't for video! It's that other nice idea: being able to SEE and CHOOSE your tracks!

Ah, see what you're saying there Gordon. Oops.

those ipod touch prices are a plain kick in the teeth, VAT included doesn't even justify those prices. they're just plain extortionate

Forgive me if I'm wrong but, the original iPod Touch @ £279 was only a 16gb model. The 32Gb model launched later and was priced at £349 making it a £50 price drop for the new 32Gb model.

@ilovethemonkeyhead: Um, by my calculations $399 = £227... £227 + 17.5% = £266... so Apple price gouge us by... wow... £23 ! Or, less than 10% premium...
Sorry but, a 10% premium is nothing compared to most tech prices. Try looking at UMPCs or subnotebooks if you want to see some real dollar-to-pound p**s-takes.

Well, I was disappointed too that Apple did not significantly update the shuffle with a small screen and an increase in capacity, a la Sansa Clip. I think the shuffle is being sidelined before being quietly dropped, alas. This would be a real pity as many of us do not want portable video or a large player, and really cannot get along with using Windows Media player. How is Songbird coming along? Slowly, very slowly, as always.

The iPod Shuffle does ;despite its name; play tracks sequentially. I have one and there is a switch on the side which changes between 'shuffle' and 'sequential' playback.
