Ever since T-Mobile cut iPhone prices in Germany this has been on the cards...

According to Mobile Today the price of an 8GB iPhone will be cut by £100 for a limited time promotion running from 16 April until 1 June. The new £169 RRP will be offered to all customers who sign up for an 18 month £35pm mobile contract which provides 600 minutes, 500 texts, flat rate data and free access to Cloud WiFi hotspots.

The 16GB model (whose launch I broke exclusively in February) will not be part of the promotion and will retain its hefty £329 premium asking price - for now.

Ironically I had been expecting exclusive world from O2 today breaking this development so colour me frustrated (evil Mobile Today!), but either way the end result for consumers is good news. Of course we all know the cuts are a last ditch effort to rake in new customers before the new 3G capable iPhone is announced at some point in June. Still, if you're not big on web surfing perhaps you'll be happy to cash in on the original now, after all it's £30 less than an 8GB iPod touch.

Stay tuned for my 'exclusive' O2 quote any minute! Ho hum...
