Given the somewhat lacking presence of the BBC's iPlayer on Macs, one might have thought that the Apple-flavoured would-be public service viewers were being left out on purpose. Going some way dissuade such accusations is the latest deal between BBC Worldwide and Apple, which sees selected content up for purchase on iTunes - admittedly not a Mac-specific solution, but a good move nonetheless.

Currently the range of programs is fairly limited, as seen in the list below, but is expected to grow over time. There's a good variety in the current line-up anyway, so pretty much anyone should find something to their tastes. So, up for grabs you'll find:

  • Ashes To Ashes
  • Life On Mars
  • Little Britain
  • Robin Hood
  • Spooks
  • The Catherine Tate Show
  • The Mighty Boosh
  • Torchwood
  • Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps.

Pricing is the same as all other TV content on iTunes, namely £1.89 an episode with varying costs for entire series.

Separate to this deal, there is still rumour that the iPlayer, EPG browser interface et al, might well be winging its way onto AppleTV. That negotiation, if it is taking place, isn't a factor in this partnership, although if it does hold true it would certainly give Apple users a much fairer share of the BBC digital distribution pie - here's hoping.
