Not only is Apple finding it hard to contain leaks on its upcoming products these days, but even impending firmware releases are now out of the bag.

Making a major splash this time is Gear Live's exclusive snag of the iPhone's long anticipated 1.1.3 update which marks the single largest range of improvements since the WiFi iTunes bringing and wondrously hackable 1.1.1.

Arguably biggest in a raft of helpful functionality additions this time around is the introduction of moveable home screen icons. With February's launch of an official SDK, Apple has enabled users to drag and drop icons around the home page or even shift them to a second blank page. On top of this the much requested ability to send SMS messages to multiple recipients has arrived and Safari lets users add bookmark icons for their favourite sites directly to the home screen for one touch access.

The last big area to be polished up is the already impressive Google Maps which now offers the popular hybrid view, lets users drop and drag pins anywhere on a map to save a more precise location and features a neat curling page animation which reveals one touch access to Google's new My Location feature and traffic views.

On the downside, 1.1.3 has been found to relock all previously unlocked handsets and remove all third party applications. Furthermore, with 1.1.2 proving illusive to hackers throughout its lifetime 1.1.3 is expected to be an especially hard nut to (re)crack.

Expect 1.1.3 to turn up in early January. Fellow 1.1.1 users, we've had a good smug run...
