Amazon has a range of cases available for its own series of ereaders, which range from leather cases with integrated lights right down to the case we’re looking at today, which is the Amazon Kindle Zip Sleeve.
As you can probably tell from the name alone, the Zip Sleeve is not a cover which flips open, but is a carrying pouch which is closed by a zip. This means that it is not as convenient as many cases which simply flip open to reveal the Kindle inside, but it does mean you’re ereader will be entirely protected from the outside world.
The Zip Sleeve, which will fit the Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch, is made of nylon and while it may not have that premium feel you get from leather cases, it still feels nice to the touch. The cases come in five different colours: Charcoal, Graphite, Coral, Blue and Lime.
The cases, which weigh just 82g, also come with a faux leather strip on one side, which we presume is meant to allow you to carry it with one hand, but considering most people will be slinging the Zip Sleeve in a bag or backpack and we can’t really see the point of this strip, aside from an aesthetic value of course.
The case’s zip is along two sides and the action of it feels nice and secure, with no problems catching on some material on the inside. The inside of the case is, as you would expect, well padded, with a scooped pattern throughout which should prevent any unwanted scrapes and scratches blemishing your Kindle 4 or Kindle Touch.
Of course the major issue with cases of this kind is that you’ll need to remove your Kindle from its case completely to continue reading. For some this won’t be a problem, but if you use your Kindle on the go and want the convenience of quickly covering it/opening it up, then you may want to look elsewhere.
At £19.99 the case is not cheap but the fact that it doesn’t add much bulk to your Kindle will be an appealing trait for some, especially those who only use the Kindle at home.
Verdict
The Amazon Kindle Zip Sleeve is a case for your ereader which will make sure it is completely protected even when in your bag or backpack. It won’t add much bulk to your slim Kindle 4 or Kindle Touch but the problem with this case is that it means you’ll need to take your Kindle out of the Zip Sleeve completely to use it.
