Our Score:

The world is going wireless, but ditching all your wires is a daunting prospect - because wire-free things rarely work as they should. AirDroid is one of the best ways to stop having to plug your Android phone into your computer, ever.

It lets you wirelessly transfer files, manage your SMS messages, save photos and even install apps remotely. AirDroid runs over a Wi-Fi network within a browser on the desktop end, making this solution all the more versatile. The only annoying limitation is that transfer rates are, obviously, limited by the speed of the connection. Unless you're blessed with incredibly fast internet, this will likely be much slower than a wired connection.AirDroid

As AirDroid is a free download, this is no reason not to give it a go. It will even let you read your SMS messages from your computer and browse your phonebook. It's hardly the sort of thing most people will want to do on a daily basis, but it's a taste of what flavour the future may come in.

Flexible, free and a look into the wireless future - anyone who has ever spent 15 minutes searching for a microUSB cable should check this out.

I have AirDroid on my ancient HTC Desire and it works a treat. Enter the IP given to you by the app and the password. Paste it into your browser and off you go. It really is very simple.

I went to install it but the application requires permission to send SMS messages. Are you kidding?
