It seems as though DVD/HDD Recording products have long reached their peak in terms of what new features and functionality they can provide. Nothing major has come out that wasn't already available 2 or even 3 years ago.

I have Pioneer DVR-LX61D and a slightly older Sony machine (very similar to the Pioneer) and they both do more than this unit. I would like to upgrade them next year but am waiting for some more innovation e.g. Twin Tuners, ability to play ripped DVDs or media files directly from the hard drive etc.

Perhaps it's best to wait for other Blu-Ray/HDD recorders instead.
