The DR18DT is a solid all-rounder that delivers excellent recording quality and a very useful range of editing features. It’s also easier to use than its predecessors and the inclusion of Freeview Playback adds to its all-round user-friendliness. But just like its hard-disk equipped sibling, the RD-98DT, it lacks certain features that would have taken it to the next level, namely dual-layer DVD-R/+R recording, a USB port and RGB input. But if none of that matters to you, then the DR18DT makes a competent and surprisingly affordable replacement for your VCR.

I bought one of these, just because I wanted a DVD player that will play a better variety of recorded PC media.I have never used the Freeview as I only have Sky and have never recorded a disk with it but yet it hardly ever plays Divx recordings, hates most MP4's but mostly it struggles like hell to play anything HD to the point that it's not worth the effort attempting it.

You could attribute this to a faulty unit or a clueless user but I am a computer hardware (and software to a degree) engineer by trade with a lifelong interest and hobby in practical electronics.

The Toshiba LASER and components are functioning correctly and my PC DVD Recorder which cost £60 just 3 months ago burns disks in many formats that play perfectly in my sons £15 DVD player bought in ASDA!

In any aspect I can see, even taking in the good points from the review this is by no way worth more than £50 of anyones money and if I hadn't already bought it for £130 I'd turn that down too!LOL!
