The first AV receiver from Panasonic recommended for BD was the SA-XR700. I can see that this one is much cheaper, but since I haven't read any rewievs about the XR700 I can trust (haha, you know what I mean, trusted rewiews...), I can't really compare them. And that one costs way above 500 pounds (160 000 HUF, and prices are quite the same here in Budapest). I am planning to buy BD-player and a receiver somewhere in december/january, so I hope I can read more about both receivers before I start deep-diving in my pocket :-)

This is a great receiver, in spite or perhaps because of, its limitations. It almost gives me everything I want, including a great value , versatility, and incredibly clean sound. But the main thing for me, besides an integrated phono stage (which is understandable for it's focus and price), is the ability to listen in a one channel mode! That's right, there does not seem to be a way to listen in mono through the front/subs, or any other way that I can discern.

I wish someone would correct me on this with specific instructions! Short of a mono switch on a two-channel source component, I cannot think of how to do this on my SA-BX500.

And yes, I am enjoying this receiver bi-amped, which is one of the reasons I selected it. I'm not familiar with the SA-RX700 biamp circuit, but the one on the SA-BX500 is very sophisticated, and works in full 7.1 mode. This is because unlike most biamp receivers, it utilizes the 2nd room amp, which I have never needed anyways. The others I have seen make you give up 7.1 and go to 5.1 if you want to biamp.

Panasonic's way on this receiver seems more useful, powerful, and discrete to me.

From a features perspective, the Panasonic SA-BX500’s credentials are unquestionable – a wireless-capable receiver that decodes all of the Blu-ray formats for under £400 is a real boon, and overall sound performance is impressive. It might not have enough refinement or musical prowess to send Denon or Onkyo scuttling into the shadows but it’s a definite improvement on what we heard from the SC-BT100 Blu-ray system.
