The Panasonic AG-HMC151E is more expensive than entry-level HDV models such as Canon's XH-A1 or Sony's HVR-V1E, and goes head-to-head in this respect with Sony's HVR-Z5E. However, the convenience of the SDHC recording media is undeniable, particularly if your work requires very quick turnaround. Where these other camcorders would require an expensive external FireStore drive to provide similar workflow, the Panasonic has the benefits of going tapeless out of the box. Now that SDHC media is cheap, and AVCHD widely supported by software, this is a very timely release, and a very solid choice for a variety of intensive shooting environments. NB: Holdan Limited is a distributor of video editing and post-production equipment and the Panasonic AG-HMC151E is available to buy from a number of Panasonic retailers listed on its site.

Hi James

Great review of the Panasonic HMC151. As a memory card camcorder, this must be the best in its class. The cheapest UK price seems to be around £2900. I am visiting the USA soon and I am considering purchasing the Panasonic HMC150 (USA version). The price in the USA is £2000 with 4 year worldwide warranty. Will the HMC150 function correctly in the UK. I know that the UK (HMC151) is switchable 50/60 Hz. The recording modes confuse me. If I purchase the HMC150 (USA), it operates on 6oHz (UK operates on 50Hz). How does this affect the recording mode at 1080,(HMC150 = 50i,25p,24p) (HMC151 = 60i,30p,24p). Does the difference affect the recording quality. I will be recording Wedding Videos. Can you please clarify these different recording modes.
