Mostly useless for the average consumer, in the UK at least. Anywhere you can find a darkened room, you'll probably also find a laptop or PC nearby. Any exceptions?
Sure. How about on a holiday? That's the primary use for most cams anyway, and most people don't lug around their laptop with them. I'm sure there are other situations where it might be handy. It's still terribly gimmicky, though, and nobody should buy one. If you think you might it, buy a standalone LED projector and connect the camera. That way you can also connect a computer or what-have-you and you don't need to lug around projector electronics when all you need is a camera.
Most places I ever visited there were internet cafes or friends with computers. I can think of one exception though - a rustic Spanish house I stayed in, 5 miles from the town, where my host cared little for electronics.
