Nikon CoolPix L19 and L20 - Test Shots - Exposure Evaluation

By Cliff Smith

Our Score:

User Score:

Here are some general test shots to help evaluate the camera's overall image quality, including dynamic range, colour rendition and the zoom range of the lens. Some pictures may be clicked to download the full size original image.

Again, this was shot on the L20, equivalent to 38mm. The L19 is slightly narrower, equivalent to 41mm.

The L20's telephoto end is equivalent to 136mm. Again the L19 is slightly narrower at 145mm.

Default colour reproduction is rather garish and over-saturated. The yellow flowers (do I look like a botanist?) are just featureless blobs.

Dynamic range on the L20 is poor, with little shadow detail. Oddly the L19 is not really any better.

Couldn't agree more. I've had mi L20 fro a few weeks now and am having nothing but success. I got it from www.xtrahandykit.co.uk £121. It arrived two days later and is as point and shoot as you could wish for. I also have a digital SLR for the more serious stuff, but if you want a switch on - snap - switch off, with great results, you can't do much better.

I have been using the L19 for about a year and it is great for vacations and travel. The size is excellent and it is simple to use. The final verdict is that the pictures are of consistent quality. The few pictures that have been marginal are due to my own ignorant spells. This camera has my vote!

I have a Nikon coolpix L20 and although it is a handy size for holidays the door on the battery compartment is now failing can stay closed and locked without batteries but unfortunately wont close when batteries inserted. Very dissapointed and would not recommend.
