Does this system still use the ipod's DAC? If so this is still going to be a limiting factor.

It still uses the iPod's DAC, though as far as I'm aware it's not a particularly bad example (I'm not comparing it to expensive outboard DACs, of course - I think a product like this is going up against relatively low-end HiFi equipment, not high-end audiophile stuff).

Just got one of these unit's over the weekend and it's very impressive, Build quality for the price is excellent, the speakers supplied are fine for everyday listening but I'm going to connect the unit to my 1960's Tannoy Monitior golds and see how is go's. Costco the wholesale store are knocking them out at £199.00 plus Vat just at the moment which seems a good price just at the moment.

A well-built, beautifully finished and decent sounding valve-based iPod speaker system, but one that's let down by the limitations of the bundled speakers. If you want the warm tone of valves and true Hi-Fi quality, the Fatman iTube remains your best bet.
