Yuck! High ISO performance (400 and above) is worse than that of SX10! And we all hoped that SX1's CMOS sensor will be superior to the CCD sensor used in SX10...

Seems like the iso noise is a higher than the sx10, and noise reduction comes into it more, and smudges it all

coupled with the extra 130 quid or so over the sx10, doesnt seem worth it just for the video mode, which most pc's wont manage to play anyhow

Has anyone used the SX1 for HDR? The 4 fps should give you 3 bracketted exposures in less than a second. I guess ISO 200 would be max for HDR because of noise. I shoot an EOS D40 at 7 fps for HDR and 90% are keepers, but the kit weighs 3x the SX1.

Cliff can you shed any light on this?

The PowerShot SX1 IS comes closer than any other compact still camera to matching the video capabilities of a dedicated HD camcorder, and no doubt there are some people out there who will find the 4fps continuous mode very useful for something or other, but the loss of high-ISO picture quality is a sacrifice few will be willing to make, especially on a camera costing nearly £400.
