I am waiting for Canon to make a camera which will be a suitable replacement for my Powershot A620. Currently they make nothing that ticks all the right boxes.

Its quite simple. All I want is a tilt and swivel LCD and a reasonable battery indicator. The powershot I have, has a tendency to run the batteries down when its not being used. And when they do run out it gives you under 1 minute of warning before they give up completely..... which is absolutely ludicrous.

I have emailed them to ask if they have such a camera in their range. The reply i have says that they do either or, but not both. Until that day... I will wait.

Now the price is down to £139.99 at Jessops the A720IS looks a very good buy for anyone wanted a bit more control than a simple P&S.

I only paid £129.99 for mine at Jessops. Lacks the 28mm capability of my Canon Ixus 850 (pickpocketed in Cape Town) but zooms out to 200+mm. Bulkier too but otherwise it's great and a real bargain at that price.

The Canon PowerShot A720 IS is an ideal camera for anyone who wants a bit more creative control than most pocket compacts can provide, and would be an excellent choice for anyone who wants to learn more about photography. Build quality, design and performance are all first rate, image quality is superb and the range of features is hard to match at the price. Battery duration could be a problem, but the ready availability of AA batteries offsets this somewhat.
