Good review, thanks. Unfortunately that resolution is far to low to tempt me, and a surprising choice for a 16" screen really. Media controls look cool though, reminds me of those futuristic control panels you see in sci-fi movies / TV series. Great price too, especially with a BR drive.

To echo Misiowiec above - for a 16" screen to have a resolution below most 15" screens at the same price point isn't tempting at all. I'm looking for a replacement for a 17" 3yr old laptop - and I had hoped that technology had moved on in the meantime. Sigh. Good review though.

Thanks guys. More or less agree with the sentiments above, though it does kind of depend on your perspective. Yes, you get less vertical pixels, but you do also get more horizontal ones. It's a horses for courses choice really. Got the HP HDX16 coming in shortly and this might tempt you further... ;)

You could always opt for the only slightly costlier T9400 models of which there are 2 to choose from starting @ £999. They both come with a eye-testing 1920x1080 full hd resolution:)

Looks nice, but I'd like to customize it before I buy it and there doesn't appear to be a way to do that. One of the things I like most about Dell laptops is that you can choose a basic spec and add optional extras (like a higher resolution screen, or better graphics card). Do any other Laptop manufacturers offer this service? I couldn't see any way to do this on either the Acer or HP websites...

For £1000, is there actually anything better Price/Performance wise?

The 6935G 16" on laptops direct comes with full 1900x1080, 2.53Ghz, 4GB DDR2, 9600m GT 512 MB, Blue Ray, TV Tuner plus loads more...

Nanite: Apparently you can customize HP laptops on the US site but not over here. Has anyone heard about the HP dv4-1199ea Special Edition? It appears to have a decent spec, but I can't find any reviews of it or even a product page on the HP website.

I bought the 6530 model which presumably has the same screen res as the above unit but no BR drive, full size keyboard with separate numeric keypad, funky touch controls for volume and media functions (if a tad hit and miss) and HDMI output, dual core, 3GB ram etc all for a meesly £480 for which I am very happy about. Acer seem to be about the best value currently available from what I have seen.
