Best Amazon Echo Deals: What is the new 2017 Amazon Echo (aka Amazon Echo 2)?

The all-new Amazon Echo is Amazon’s flagship Alexa device, and will give you the fullest experience with the company’s digital assistant. It replaced the original Amazon Echo in late 2017.

It’s a cylindrical speaker that stands at around 24cm tall, and has full support for voice commands. That means you can shout orders at it using the wake word ‘Alexa’, and it will respond with 360-degree sound. A built-in microphone array means Echo should have no trouble picking up your voice from anywhere in the room.

Alexa can help you get things done, including answering questions, reading audiobooks aloud, reporting news, traffic, and weather, and providing sports scores and schedules. It also links up to third-party products and services, including Hive, Nest, Uber, and Philips Hue.

Amazon regularly updates the Echo over the cloud, adding new features and skills. And it even gave Alexa a British accent in the UK too.

The Amazon Echo normally sells in the UK for £89.99, but there are some great Black Friday discounts already live. It’s available in three fabric colour options (Charcoal, Heather Grey, and Sandstone) and three non-fabric options too (Oak, Walnut, and Silver).

Best Echo Dot Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Dot?

Amazon Dot is the smallest of the Alexa family at just 3.2cm tall. It’s like the Echo in that it offers full Alexa functionality, but it’s only got a single, tiny speaker inside. That means you won’t want to use it as your go-to sound system. However, you can link it up to your existing speaker system (via Bluetooth or the 3.5mm jack) to get a more Echo-like experience.

Here are the Amazon Dot specs:

  • Size: 83.5 x 83.5 x 32mm
  • Weight: 163 grams
  • Audio: Built-in speaker, 3.5mm stereo output
  • Power: Power adapter 9W, USB charging cable
  • Connectivity: Dual-band Wi-Fi support for 802.11/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth connectivity
  • Price: £49.99
  • Colours: Black, White

You can normally buy the Amazon Echo Dot in the UK for £49.99 – but right now, it’s down to just £35 and is one of the very best Amazon Black Friday deals around.

Best Echo Plus Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Plus?

The Amazon Echo Plus is the crème de la crème of the core Echo device line-up, and looks very similar to the first-generation Echo speaker at a glance.

But the good news is that Amazon has introduced a number of welcome upgrades to help you justify a big spend on the model.

For instance, it’s got a built-in smart home hub, which makes it much easier to connect your Echo to compatible smart home devices. Simply say “Alexa, discover my devices”, and she’ll track down all supported lightbulbs, plugs and other smart gadgets dotted around your home. That means Philips Hue lightbulb owners won’t need a hub with the new Echo model.

Amazon has also upgraded the 360-degree omni-directional audio with new Dolby processing, offering “deeper bass and crisper high notes”. There’s also been some improvements to the far-field audio capture, with the second-generation technology boosting wake-word detection and overall voice recognition.

You can order the Amazon Echo Plus (with a free Philips Hue lightbulb) in White, Silver, or Black for £139.99 today.

Best Echo Show Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Show?

The Amazon Echo Show has been available in the USA for a few months, but it’s finally crossed the Atlantic and is now on sale in the UK.

Unlike the standard Echo, the Echo Show comes with a built-in screen, allowing it to offer more than just plain old audio. This screen lets you view video content from news providers like BBC News, The Telegraph, and MTV, as well as video calling and messaging.

It also works like a normal Echo, too, courtesy of an all-new eight-microphone array that is built into the top of the device. This uses beam-forming technology and noise-cancellation to hear you from any direction, even when music is playing.

Amazon is selling the Echo Show for £199.99 right now, but deliveries won’t actually begin until November 16, 2017 – just in time for Christmas!

Best Echo Spot Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Spot?

The Echo Spot is…not available in the UK. But it’s in the USA, and could certainly arrive in humble Blighty eventually, so we’ve included it in the list.

Amazon’s new Spot is primarily designed to function as an alarm clock. It’s small, orb-shaped, and has a miniature 2.5-inch screen that shows pretty pictures of clouds – as well as text notifications. A built-in front-facing camera also makes it possible to access Amazon’s Echo video-calling functionality – huzzah!

As expect, it also features all the usual Alexa voice control trimmings, just in case a bleary-eyed future version of yourself wants to order a Dominos breakfast pizza at 7:30am.

It’s available to pre-order for a December release in the USA for $130, which comes in at just shy of £100 in British Sterling.

Best Echo Connect Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Connect?

The Amazon Echo Connect is a new 2017 addition to the USA’s Echo roster, and is definitely coming to the UK – albeit in 2018.

It’s basically a speakerphone that plugs into your usual landline port, and will co-operate with a UK phone number. This means you’ll be able to make calls using your actual number, but using Echo devices as speakerphones. Magical, eh?

It’s currently price at $35 in the US, which is a little north of £25 in UK currency. However, exact UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.

Best Echo Button Deals: What are the Amazon Echo Buttons?

The Amazon Echo Buttons are different to other Echo devices, in that they don’t actually have Alexa functionality built in.

Instead, you’re supposed to buy them as a fun accessory to your existing Echo device – whether that be an Echo 2, Echo Plus, or Echo Dot.

The Buttons connect to your Echo speaker via Bluetooth, and are intended for use with Alexa-powered games like Beat The Intro. It’s basically a fun way to get all of the family interacting with an Alexa in an easy way, and we’d expect more games will support Amazon Echo Button functionality in the future.

Best Echo Tap Deals: What is the Amazon Echo Tap?

Amazon Tap is like the Echo, but it’s designed to be used on the go. That portability means you’re getting less impressive audio, but you still get the full Alexa treatment. However, unlike Echo, the Tap isn’t ‘always-on’, which means you’ll need to press a button to activate Alexa, rather than using a wake word.

The Amazon Tap is completely wireless, and charges via a dock – you’ll get 9 hours of continuous music playback, apparently.

Here are the Amazon Tap specs:

  • Size: Tap – 159 x 66 x 66mm | Dock – 15 x 66 x 66mm
  • Weight: Tap – 470 grams | Dock – 109 grams
  • Audio: Dual 1.5-inch drivers and dual passive radiators for bass extension
  • Power: Charging dock (9 hours of music playback)
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi support 802.11b/g/n Bluetooth
  • Price: $129.99
  • Colours: Black (with coloured cases)

You can buy the Amazon Echo right now in the US for $129.99. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on a UK release.
