Our shortlist for the Best 3D TVs of 2011 included sets from Panasonic, Samsung, LG and Sharp with no TV smaller than 42in making the shortlist, but inlcuding sets going all the way up to a rather large 64in - with both active and passive TVs making the cut. We asked you to vote for your favourite, whether that was a 3D TV you already owned or one you simply wished you owned.

Having tallied your votes, we whittled down the shortlist to three finalists: the Samsung UE46D7000, the Panasonic TX-P55VT30 and the LG 42LW550T. The chosen finalists showed just far 3D TVs have come since becoming popular last year and with both passive and active technology, it also shows how the industry is still trying to decide on which is best.

Our panel of experts then got together to discuss and debate the merits of each 3D TV getting a chance to don those silly glasses to judge the quality of the 3D images as well as looking at the 2D quality.

The voting was very close, but looking at the judges' comments, it is clear that they felt the outstanding quality of the 3D images produced by one televsion, aligned with robust design and great features made it a worthy winner of 3D TV of the Year 2011.
