Our shortlist for the Best 2D TVs of 2011 included sets from Panasonic, Samsung, LG and Toshiba ranging in size from 32in all the way up to 55in, using technology like LCD and Plasma. We asked you to vote for your favourite, whether that was a TV you owned or one you simply wished you owned.

Having tallied your votes we whittled down the shortlist to three finalists: the Samsung UE40D5520, the Panasonic TX-P50G30 and the Samsung UE32D5000. The chosen finalists showed just how much people valued image quality and design as much as screen size, with a 32in LCD model competing against a 50in Plasma TV.

Our panel of experts got together to discuss and debate the merits of each TV getting a chance to see each in action before voting for the winner.

The voting was very close with the Panasonic TX-P50G30 and the Samsung UE40D5520 tying in the voting, but looking at the judges' comments, it is clear that one television with outstanding image quality, aligned with beautiful design and great value, was a worthy winner of 2D TV of the Year 2011.
